Explore Theater Classes are presented in association with the Kearney Park and Recreation Department.

Kids, ranging kindergarten through middle school, will receive exciting hands-on theater experiences. There is something for everyone.  Even younger kids can tackle the craft of theater through puppetry, fairy tales, music and choreography.

Middle school students will have the chance to perform their favorite numbers from Glee complete with choreography or to write and produce a murder mystery radio show.   We are excited to offer all new classes this year taught by professional artists from our 2011 Company.  Encouraging creativity in our youth is essential.  

A detailed list of classes is available below.   A registration form will be available on April 16th, when they are released by Kearney Park and Recreation.

Explore Theater Classes 

Theater is essentially an opportunity to explore. People of all ages, all interests, and all backgrounds can relate to the universal appeal of theater.  It is for this reason that we bring to you a series of classes for various ages that explore the art of music, theater and performance.  The intention is to have fun through imagination and play.  It will allow kids from kindergarten to middle school the opportunity to challenge themselves while working with others, and turn the ordinary into the extraordinary.  All classes are offered through Crane River Theater Company and will be taught by theater professionals.  The final day for all classes will include a performance for families and friends.  All classes are generously supported by Platte Valley State Bank and Trust Company.

All classes will take place at the Harmon Park Activity Center.  Please note there is a supply fee of $10 required for each student in each class.  All classes meet Monday through Friday and no classes will be offered during the week of July 4-8.

Imagination at Play

Kindergarten – 2nd Grade

– First Class –

 10 am-12 pm June 6-10 - cost $28 plus $10 supply fee

– Second Class –

1-3 pm July 11-15 - cost $28 plus $10 supply fee

Kids will use a variety of methods to create their own version of a popular fairy tale through songs, dance and imagination.

Let’s Make a Musical

3rd Grade – 5th Grade

– First Class –

10 am-12 pm June 13-17 - cost $28 plus $10 supply fee

– Second Class –

 1-3 pm July 25-29 - cost $28 plus $10 supply fee

Discover the art of creating and performing your own musical.  Students will create songs from popular melodies to tell a theatrical story of their very own.

Glee!

6th Grade – 8th Grade

10 am-12 pm June 20- July 1 (2 wk class) - cost $44 plus $10 supply fee

Take the stage by storm with your favorite musical numbers from the popular show Glee.  This two week class will focus on the art of musical theater.  Students will perform multiple numbers complete with characterization and choreography.

Turn the Radio Up

6th Grade – 8th Grade

1-3 pm July 18-22 - cost $38 plus $10 supply fee

 

Ever want to be on the radio?  Well now is your chance. Create an old time radio show complete with characters and sound effects!  Students will get the opportunity to develop the script from beginning to end.  Friends and family are encouraged to tune in on the final day for a live performance.
