Saturday, October 27, 2018

Race through the zombie infested landscape of a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Scale obstacles and outrun the undead as you navigate a two mile course outside The Archway in Kearney. On October 27, 2018, Crane River Theater will host Zombies Attack: A Run for your Life. More than 1000 participants from three states have come to Kearney for the run over the past three years. It was an overwhelming success and we are looking forward to drawing larger crowds in the future. People have the opportunity to sign up as a Runner, Zombie or Observer. Runners will attempt to outrun the undead, as the Zombies will pursue runners in an effort to secure their life flags. When the dead start walking, you better start running!

FAQ

What is a Zombie Run?
Zombie Runs are becoming more and more popular throughout the country. This run will be unique in that it will feature obstacles and challenges along the zombie infested course. Runners will attempt to outrun the undead, as the Zombies will pursue runners in an effort to secure their life flags.

How do I register?
Online registration is available for Runners and Zombies at CraneRiverTheater.org starting September.
In person registration is available for Runners on the day of the event beginning at 12 pm. It is expected that we will reach capacity, so register early.

How much does it cost?
Online registration is $20. In person registration is $25. All participants will receive a special Zombies Attack t-shirt.

How old do I have to be in order to participate?
You must be 12 or older to participate as a “Runner,” and 16 or older to participate as a “Zombie.”

When does the event start?
• Zombie participants are required to check in for Zombie Training between 12 pm-1 pm.
• Runners are required to check in between 3 pm-4 pm.
• The Zombie Run will begin at 4 pm and conclude by 6 pm.

How long is the course?
It is a two-mile course along the deserted dirt roads just north of The Archway.

What is required to be a Zombie?
Zombie participants are required to attend Zombie Training 101 the day of the event from 1 pm-3 pm. You will then have an hour to complete your zombie look with the assistance from trained professionals, before you take to the deserted roads outside The Archway. Once the race is underway, you will be assigned to specific zones along the course where you will attempt to retrieve flags from runners. Training will include an informational session from a resident Zombie Expert, a tour of the post apocalyptic obstacle course, a tutorial about becoming the walking and talking dead, and concluding with a zombie make-over complete with latex, makeup and blood. Wardrobe will NOT be provided, so all zombie participants are asked to bring a costume complete with appropriate footwear to be bloodied and shredded. Long sleeve shirts and pants are highly encouraged. Nothing ruins the zombie effect more than seeing your toned arms and legs, and we will not have time to apply makeup to them.

What is required to be a Runner?
All Runners are required to check in between 3 pm-4 pm in the front lobby of The Archway. A runner ID, flag belt and information about the course will be shared at the time of registration. The race will officially begin at 4pm, at which point runners will take to the deserted roads outside the Archway hurdling over barriers and tackling obstacles, while at the same time avoiding oncoming Zombies. The goal is to complete the race and survive the apocalypse by preserving each of your flags. Runners are encouraged to dress appropriately as you will most likely be getting down and dirty along the course. A special Zombies Attack t-shirt will be issued at the completion of the race to all participants.

What is required to be a Volunteer?
We love volunteers! And it’s Free. There are so many ways to be involved. Volunteers will be needed to help with registration, supervise the obstacle course and assist with zombie make-overs. It is entirely up to you. When you register online, please indicate which area you would like to help out, and we will contact you with details.

Who Am I?
If you run faster when you’re chasing someone, then you’re probably a zombie. If you run faster when you’re being chased, then you’re probably a human – for now, anyway.

I’m a little nervous. What’s the worst that could happen?
Brain-eating aside, we take every precaution to ensure that the Zombie Run is no more dangerous than any other run. Zombies will not physically harm you, and the fake blood will wash out of your clothing, hair and skin.

Can I really kill humans?
No killing, no biting, no hurting in any way. Zombie contestants are allowed to take the “life flags” of any human contestant. Physical contact between the undead and the living beyond that is forbidden, unless, of course, by mutual consent.

Can I still run if I’m dead?
Yes. Being killed by a zombie should not ruin your whole day.

What if it rains or snows?
Even better because Zombies love rain and snow!

Is registration refundable?
Unfortunately no. We cannot refund any registration.

Will there be food?
The Archway will be selling drinks, concessions and food for the duration of the event.
